Staying at this traditional Japanese house was a mind-blowing experience! The super kind lady greeted us with hot tea and candy, and even gave us entrance tickets to a temple. The bag of delicious mandarines left on our table was a jaw-dropping surprise. The clean bathroom provided all the necessary amenities like a hairdryer, toothbrushes, q-tips, and mouthwash. The location in Kyoto's Gion area was fantastic, with easy access to subway, river trails, restaurants, and cultural sites. The friendly owner and her son made our stay unforgettable, and the air-conditioned room in the well-maintained historic property added to the charm. The thoughtful touches, like maps and tea on arrival, made this a truly immersive and wonderful experience in Japanese culture.

The value for money at this traditional ryokan was excellent, with a nice and comfortable room. The hotel's location was great, with famous spots and the train station within a 15-25 minute walk. The staff were friendly and helpful, even giving suggestions for local dining options and providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owner went above and beyond, with small touches like offering tea and snacks upon arrival and a tray of fresh fruits during the stay. The gift upon departure was a lovely gesture.
One thing that could make the breakfast better would be to include more variety of items.

We had an amazing traditional Japanese experience at Tanaka-Ya. The location was perfect, allowing us to easily walk to nearby shrines and enjoy beautiful walks along the nearby river. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with fluffy blankets, and the strong A/C kept us cool. Staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan was so much fun, and the owner's friendly demeanor and limited English made us feel welcome. The private bath was a great feature, providing both privacy and relaxation. The staff were exceptionally helpful, and having our own small house with three rooms made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend a stay at Tanaka-Ya!
Nothing I didn't like to be fair 😊

The room at Tanaka-Ya was cozy and comfortable, with a lovely seating area for relaxation. I really appreciated having a kettle in the room, it made it easy to make a nice cup of tea. The free WiFi was also a great bonus!
Personally, I would have preferred a private bathroom instead of a shared one.

Staying at this place was an absolute mind-blowing experience! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the super kind hostess who gave us hot tea and candy. The traditional Japanese house was jaw-droppingly beautiful and located in a lovely little alley. The location was perfect for exploring the charming and traditional parts of the city. The room was spacious, cozy, and authentic, with a low ceiling that added to its charm. The bathroom was clean and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. The hostess went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, providing us with maps and even serving us tea and rice crackers. This place truly felt like a home away from home.
