The Hotel du Vin at Brighton is full of character from the courtyard and carved staircase through to the bedrooms and public rooms. This is complemented by the excellent staff and the fine food.

The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, the hotel design and bar area is very luxurious, the bistro at breakfast time was run very proffessionaly and although very busy the staff and kitchens did not keep you waiting and the breakfast was delicous and worth the money, my husband said it was the best porridge he has had in any hotel. The rooms had small decking area you can sit outside and have cup of tea in the morning weather permitting, the bed was really comfortable and they have large fridge with mini bar, and small stereo unit, the bathrooms were lovely with roll top bath and a massive walk in shower.

The air conditioning was not cold at all and it was very noisy, if you left the patio door open then you got noise from the generator on the roof and the seagull noise all through the night, so could not leave the doors open for fresh air, and had to turn the air conditioning off because of the noise, I asked for a fan and got a really small one which did not cool the room. The corners of the bed and desk are wooden with sharp corners we kept on bumping into them so got a few bruises. The room itself was clean but we put our cases on top of the wardrobe and when we took them down they were covered in thick dust so could not have been claeaned for months. The patio area was dirty with lots of cigarette ends lying around and we do not smoke. All of the above is being really critical it would not stop us sataying here again if we got a specail deal.

Service by the Hotel Staff and thier friendliness

Toilet Grimy not cleaned properly upon arrival, Restuarent service slow and tables close together and impersonal.

    • Couple

      Good location

Service was poor. Paid up for a more expensive room and it was a huge dissapointment, small and difficult to move around. Very noisy at night. Bar staff were as good as usless and miserable. No car park, not the end of the world but annoying. We love hotels overseas and around the UK, we will never be staying at this hotel again.

The bar area was beautiful and intimate. Great cocktail. Well informed and friendly staff.

    • Older travelers

      Nice staff, breakfast & bed.

Too hot, Air Con so noisy couldn't sleep. Room quite small, pillows not big enough.

    • Couple
      6.6

Excellent location, nicely presented, nice bathroom, good staff, good restaurant.

This hdv seems to use its "Boutique" status to quality for high ratings and charging high prices without offering even basic 4 star hotel services. Very small room and only a standard double bed - too small to be really comfortable (myself and my partner are not big) even though the mattress was good quality (recommend phoning ahead to check what size bed you'll get). Pillows way too soft and no extras supplied in wardbrode as you might normally expect. Wasn't apparent if they even offered any form of room service - the room phone was basic with no preset speed-dials to reception or any other service departments. Tv service was poor - sky channels - but poor quality picture; dvd player - but no movies on demand or load/rent DVDs offered. Internet - free for 30 mins - but then charged for - is this really necessary in a hotel that already charges as much as it does? Bar and restaurant generally very good but not enough seating in the bar area. Seems to cater better to visitors than residents - you can experience the best this hdv has to offer by dropping in for a drink and a meal.

The hotel was lovely the room was great, no noise at night. Highly recommend!!!

There was nothing I didnt like about the hotel

    • Older travelers
      6.2

The bathroom was large with walk-in shower and bedroom spacious. Liked CD and DVD player provided. The bar and lounge area was stylish and cosy.

Complained about the mould around shower walls and this was quickly removed. I cut my leg on the wooden bedstead due to the sharp edges and jutting out into the room. Again, they dealt with the problem by removing the sharp edges with a saw straight away :) We stayed 4 nights and after eating in the restaurant on the first night decided not to do so again as it was very poor cooking (and expensive). 4 glasses of house wine was £40! The location is fantastic if you want to be int he centre of the lanes and shopping, but be aware of the weekend revellers- it was quite noisy. I would prefer to stay somewhere else next time Im in Brighton to be honest.

    • Older travelers
      9.2

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff; the facilities in the room; the general ambience.

I cannot see where I can make a small complaint.

At this point in time I have a reservation at hdv T,Wells for the 4th March and I am hoping its an improvement or we will not be using this chain again

The room had no ventilation, window screwed shut, ac on heat with no cold air. Never slept all night
