I recently had a memorable stay at a stunning hotel that made my birthday celebration truly special. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Paul at the gate, we were treated like royalty. The staff, particularly Charlotte and the events team, went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing experience. The octagon room where we had our surprise birthday lunch was exquisite, and my mom's stay in the queens room with a four-poster bed was the icing on the cake. The breakfast provided was first-class, with a wide range of choices for both myself and my vegetarian partner. The spa facilities were also highly recommended, offering top-notch quality.
Can't think of anything 🤷♀️

Looking out the window from our room at an avenue of lime trees stretching out into the distance. It's hard to believe that Hartwell House is so near a town as the grounds are completely peaceful and it is a real wildlife haven. It is a treat to stay in such a beautiful old building. The spa had very few people in it so had the pool to myself in the morning.
There is a certain sense of faded grandeur. Our room was via a strange backstairs with rather tired carpet and wallpaper. Although the reception staff are very friendly, elsewhere staffing was somewhat stiff, which did not make it as welcoming as it could be. We were escorted to our room in complete silence and not shown or told where we would find the bar/restaurant/spa etc.

The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. We were greeted at the door and enjoyed pre-lunch drinks and canapés in a cozy drawing room. The food at the restaurant was delicious, especially the perfectly cooked beef. The price for a Sunday lunch was very reasonable.
The changing rooms in the spa could use some refurbishment. While the spa itself was quiet and relaxing, the outdated facilities in the changing rooms were a bit of a letdown.

Had a lovely xmas break here. The staff were incredible, so attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, especially the 7-course New Year's Eve meal. The hotel grounds were extensive and great for walks. The room was comfortable and spacious.
The spa was not very accessible for disabled visitors. The changing rooms were difficult to navigate with a wheelchair, and there were no proper means of support for getting into the pool or other facilities.

Stunning, historic property with a charming, unique ambiance. The rooms were excellently furnished, and our room had a lovely view. The restaurant offered excellent dinner options, and the food was top-notch. Despite a few minor drawbacks, overall I highly recommend this hotel.

Charming staff, Brilliant spa - especially the pool - lovely late night chess games in the library with huge brandies!
Service at breakfast was disastrous! 4 waiting staff, none of whom seemed to know what they were doing. It took 20 minutes and three requests to get a coffee - and those around us were similarly suffering. Outrageous at such an expensive hotel. I didn't have dinner, but if this is the standard of service, I would rather not.
